HUMAN NEEDS

But let all who take refuge in You be glad.  Let them ever sing for joy; And may You shelter them, that those who love Your name may exult in You.  –Psalm 5:11

The purpose of this ministry is to provide “shelter for tonight” as well as a safe and warm place to stay. The PADS program provides supportive services in the form of shelter, food and hygiene supplies and hospitality for the homeless citizens of Lake County during the cold weather months of October through April. Each guest is provided with a nutritious dinner, breakfast and sack lunch.
Our site, at Messiah Lutheran Church which services only male guests, is staffed by volunteers working two – five hour shifts. Volunteers are also needed to do laundry or prepare and supply sack lunches. You can volunteer once a month (2-5 hours) for the seven months that we are open.
VOLUNTEER HELP IS NEEDED!  Anyone over 16 years of age is welcome to email Karen Abernathy at kabernat44@gmail.com to request information regarding the shift openings. It is suggested that you attend an orientation meeting prior to joining this ministry. Another option other than volunteering at the site is to consider helping prepare meals, planning fund-raisers or devoting time to PADS by assisting the staff or provide in kind donations –toiletries, pillows, blankets and many other items.

“SOUP”er BOWL COLLECTION at all Masses on Super Bowl Sunday weekend! Drop your spare change or a buck or two into the designated kettles. Your contribution helps defer the cost of food and supplies incurred during the months that Transfiguration ministers to the homeless at the Messiah Lutheran PADS site. Volunteers are also being sought.  Contact Karen above if you can help with the kettles!
