===== Parish Lenten Message Series

ONE CHURCH — ONE MESSAGE

Summary:

Like all of life, the Christian life requires perseverance, tenacity. Grit. Jesus said that it will be by perseverance we will save our life. The Scriptures tell us that Jesus resolutely determined to go to Jerusalem and that he set his face like flint.  Perseverance means resisting the urge to quit when faced with adversity. In a world entrenched in instant gratification, developing perseverance becomes essential to sustain our faith and navigate life’s challenges.

There are instances of feeling overwhelmed, wanting to give up. However, during these tough times, God stands by to provide support and aid in perseverance. Jesus himself exemplified perseverance, overcoming even death to enable us to establish an eternal connection with God. His actions assure us that we can rely on Him for the strength to persist through any challenges we encounter.

In this series we will look at how to develop perseverance so that we will persist in our faith and other vital aspects of life.

During Lent, we are offering a Small Faith Sharing Group to gather together in-person, once a week, to read and discuss the Sunday Scripture and to explore this year’s Parish Lenten Message Series. We aim to deepen our faith and commitment to Christ and His Church through prayer, fellowship, and learning. Bring a friend!

Join us on Saturdays, 9am to 10am in the Old White Church (entrance on Church Street). Contact the parish office with any questions.

===== Carmelite Spirituality

Are you searching for something more? Wanting to go deeper in your faith?
Were you aware that lay people can be Carmelites? This part of the order is called the Third Order. Members, though not in Religious Life, choose to live out their baptismal commitment according to the spirit of the Carmelite Order. Third Order Members are brothers and sisters in the Carmelite Family and share in the same call to holiness and in the same mission of the Carmelite Order as the priests and nuns! The Third Order influences the spirit and the structure of the entire Carmelite family.

The call to Carmel is a vocation. It includes friars, monks, religious sisters, cloistered nuns and lay people. Third Order Lay Carmelites are not a prayer or social group. It is a vocation … a call to live a way of life that is dedicated to prayer, service, and community. For those who are called to this way of life, it becomes a comfort, guide and beautiful source of spiritual strength as one is drawn into union with God. To become a Lay Carmelite, one must be at least 18 years old, a practicing Catholic in good standing and registered with a parish. You must also be searching for deeper spiritual guidance on your life journey.
Might you be called to live by the traditions and spirit of Carmel? We welcome you to learn more by attending a meeting. We meet the second Wednesday of the month in Crystal Lake. Contact the director, Marcie Girolamo at 815.245.0537 or

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, pray for us!
